How to Text

You know why your spa or salon should text, and you know what you want to text, but still not sure exactly how to text? No worries, we’ve got you covered.

Your keyword and our short code

Simple Texting

Start by reserving a keyword. This is your exclusive code that people will text to 555888 to get your messages.

Your keyword should be easy to remember and represent your spa or salon. Remember to keep it simple.

For example, if you operate Famous Nails Salon, a good keyword might be FAMOUS. Or if you’re running a sweepstakes to give away a free Swedish massage, consider using the keyword SWEDISH.

Import contacts

SimpleTexting allows you to import contacts into your account. If you already have your customers’ phone numbers, you can upload the contacts and be ready to text them in seconds.

Contacts that you import into our system must have given express consent to be contacted. Texting any numbers that you have not collected organically is illegal and strictly against SimpleTexting’s anti-spam policy.


No one is going to subscribe to your text message campaign if they don’t know it exists.

That brings us to an often-overlooked point: You need to advertise your text campaign.

Get the word out! Advertise your incentive wherever you can. Don’t worry, it’s ridiculously easy to do. Just include your call to action (“Text SPA to 555888”) on the materials you already use (e.g., your website, any printed materials, your signs, etc.) or print out a quick sign advertising your campaign.

Because your call to action is so succinct and your message so clear, it’s easy to promote your text campaign almost anywhere. Here are just a few ideas:

  • A flashy window display spices up your storefront
  • An eye-catching sign in your waiting area is a great way to capture your clients’ attention
  • A short notice on your receipts is a smart way to promote your texts at no cost
  • A simple sign on your cash register can be extremely effective—especially if you’re offering an instant discount on their purchase!

Important elements

Your advertisement should also include two necessary elements: a disclaimer and a notice of frequency.

The disclaimer simply serves to let the customer know that their normal costs for text messaging applies. The standard form of this disclaimer is “Message and Data Rates May Apply.”

The notice of frequency just means that you should inform guests of how many texts they’ll receive. Best practice is to send 2 to 4 texts per month. Sending significantly more texts than advertised could result in some heavy fines.

Other methods

Getting customers to text your keyword to 555888 is probably the easiest way to add them to your list—but it’s not the only way.

Personal touch

Just ask! There are many times you can ask your clients if they’d like to receive your texts.

1. Ask clients when scheduling an appointment:

“Your massage is set for Friday at 4 p.m. Would you like to receive a text message reminder an hour before your appointment, along with monthly text coupons?”

2. Suggest it casually during a session:

“We just got this new text alert service, and you can get my weekly beauty tips and cool coupons every month. Interested?”

3. Ask at the register as a client is paying:

“You’ll want to get a touch-up in about 3 to 4 weeks. Would you like us to send you a follow-up text reminder, along with monthly coupons?”

4. Collect business cards in a fishbowl near the register. Advertise it as a way to sign up for special discounts or to enter your sweepstakes:
