The more you know about your database of contacts, the smarter your marketing becomes. When you gather more data on your text message database, you can:

- Segment your list and send even more targeted messages

- Export the data you collect into a spreadsheet
Here’s How Our Text Message Data Collection Feature Works
If you’re excited about the possibilities, then we have more good news: there is no manual SMS marketing data entry involved here.
This feature can be activated on your keyword(s) to collect one or more of the following default fields:
- First name
- Last name
If you decide to create additional Custom Fields, they’ll be displayed as options below the default fields when you set up Data Collection.
For example, if you’re a cosmetics brand, you could collect information on skin types and send your customers’ tailored skincare tips. First, you’ll need to create a “Skin Type” Custom Field.
You’ll then create a keyword–“SKINTYPE”–and ask subscribers to text it to your phone number. They’ll receive an automated message with the options you set. (Here’s more information on how keywords work.)
Here’s an example of what the set up looks like in SimpleTexting:
When subscribers respond to your data collection prompts via text, their input is associated with their mobile number and stored in your secure database.
So, in the above example, the business could subsequently create four Segments using skin type.
If you want to collect this information for other purposes, you can access and export it at any time, as well as use our Zapier integration to sync it to another app.
