Turn Your Email List into SMS Subscribers in Just 10 Minutes

Back to Navigating SMS

Email lists are a prized possession for most marketers. Don't leave those subscribers behind when you start using SMS! Get them to sign up for texts in just 3 steps.

What do churches, e-commerce stores, and laundromats all have in common? This isn’t the beginning of a bad joke, we promise. The answer is they all use text marketing. No matter what industry you operate in, a list of phone numbers is the most important part of achieving success with SMS.

This list gives your brand the power to rapidly promote products, share your story, and build your business.

Whether you’re starting from scratch or already have a six-figure list, we’re going to show you how to grow it.

First, Create a Sign-Up Form

Online sign-up forms give your audience a quick, convenient way to share their contact info.

“But how, SimpleTexting? How is it possible to add a sign-up form to my site? My web developers are busy and so am I!”

We hear you loud and clear. That’s why we created the ability to make embeddable forms right from our app. All you have to do is copy/paste a tiny bit of code onto your site.

Log in to your account, go to apps, then Web Sign-Up forms. Then click Create Form. From there, select the info you’d like to collect such as first name, last name, email. The phone number field is included by default.

In the end, you’ll end up with a form like this:

Next, Add the Form to Your Website

Copy/paste the code from the form onto a landing page on your site. You can even add it to your existing contact page. Here’s what the code looks like:

Finally, Send an Email to Your Current Subscribers

If you’re like most businesses, you already invest a significant amount of time into building your email list. People subscribed to your emails are prime candidates for texting.

Why? For one, they’ve already displayed interested in your brand. But it goes even deeper that. People want content that’s optimized for their phones. Don’t believe us? Take a look at this analysis of 6 billion emails. It found that 46 percent of all opens occur on mobile.

Here’s how you can turn your existing email subscribers into text message subscribers. Create an email informing your contacts that you now offer SMS alerts.

In your email, you should include:

  • What’s in it for them? Make the benefit of subscribing crystal clear
  • Details about what kind of messages you’ll send
  • How often you plan to send messages
  • A button that links to the page with your sign-up form
