Hurricane Sandy & Texts to Stay Safe

Published on October 29, 2012

With Hurricane Sandy barreling down on the East Coast—and our Manhattan office in her sights—many of us here at SimpleTexting are working from home today. Here are a couple ways text messaging is making it easier to battle off the storm.

If you’re in Sandy’s path, remember to stay safe and indoors. You can find open shelters by texting the Federal Emergency Management Agency:

Text “SHELTER” + [zip code] to 43362 (4FEMA) for listings of open hurricane shelters near you.

If you’re not one of the 50 million Americans affected, but you’d like to donate to relief efforts already underway, send a text to the Red Cross:

Text “REDCROSS” to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief.

Just goes to show how texting can bring us together in times of need.

Stay safe, everyone!
