Yes, you can text from a landline, no it won't cost extra, and more answers to some of the most common questions about texting and landlines.
Texting and landlines seem to go together about as well as toothpaste and orange juice. After all, isn’t the explicit purpose of a landline to receive calls while remaining tethered to the phone jack in a home or business?
We thought so, at least for a while. But now, thanks to advances in business texting software, your business’ landline can send and receive text messages. No shortcode necessary!
There are a lot of frequently asked questions on how texting a landline works, so we thought we’d try and answer some of the most common ones for you. Have a question not covered here? No problem, we’ve got a handy support team prepared to help you out. Just email us your questions: support@simpletexting.net
Let’s dive in!
The short answer- yes! With SimpleTexting, we’ll help you text enable your current landline number, a VoIP line, or even register a new local number. It doesn’t require any additional hardware, just a little SMS magic courtesy of our web gurus.
We’re glad you asked. The key is business texting software. With cell phones, the voice and text networks are linked. But voice and text in landlines are separate, they work independently. This means that your phone, as a physical device, doesn’t receive texts. The number does. Because of that, text enabling your existing phone number is possible. You’ll still receive calls as usual, but texts can be sent and received from the web.
If your business already has an existing 10 digit phone number, our team will utilize our business texting software to grant you access to the platform thus text enabling your landline. You can text your customers from your ten-digit landline number right from your SimpleTexting account.
Texting occurs from anywhere you can access your SimpleTexting dashboard: desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or SimpleTexting mobile app. Get the full demo on our dashboard here.
Yes! If you choose to utilize SimpleTexting as a two-way communication platform, you can both send and receive text messages from your landline. You can receive and reply to messages right on your SimpleTexting account.
Yes and no. To utilize SimpleTexting’s platform there is a fee. The good news is, we’ll set you up with a two-week free trial so you can give your newly text-enabled landline a go.
However, the cost is simply for SimpleTexting’s services, there is no additional fee because you’re texting from a landline. Additionally, the folks sending and receiving texts to/from your business won’t incur any fees either. As long as their mobile phone supports texting, and they’re within their monthly limits, there won’t be a single noticeable difference for your customers. Unless you count how excited they’ll be about their newfound ability to text your business!
If your landline isn’t text enabled, nothing happens! The message goes undelivered. If your landline is text enabled, it will show up in your SimpleTexting inbox just as it would on a mobile device.
