Learn how to write the perfect customer appreciation text message as well as sample scenarios when you may want to send one.
It’s such a simple thing—to say thank you. Yet so many businesses miss out on this easy opportunity to boost customer loyalty.
According to a study by TD Bank, more than three out of four consumers (77%) like when brands demonstrate their appreciation.
While an in-person thank you goes a long way, it’s virtually impossible for most businesses to thank every one of their customers face-to-face.
So, what’s the next best way to send customers a personalized thank you? Through text message!
There’s no bad time to say thank you. But there are some key actions along the customer journey that are worth shouting out. Here are a few situations where sending an appreciation text message can make all the difference.
When a customer joins or subscribes to your mailing/texting list it’s important to let them know you value them for doing so. A simple, “thank you for joining the club” can go a long way in priming their future engagement with your messages! Sending an appreciation text message when a new customer joins your mailing list is a great way to start the relationship off on a positive note.
Letting a customer know you remember their milestones with your business can put action to the words “we care about our customers”. From birthdays to membership anniversaries, these are all great opportunities to drop in and let a customer know you appreciate them and their business!
Holidays are a time for celebration. What better way to mark a special occasion than with an expression of gratitude. If you’re looking to drive sales or promotions, this is also a great opportunity to piggyback a thank you with a deal or discount!
If a customer has been inactive for a while it can be another great opportunity to let them know you miss them and value their business. This simple act of reaching out without ulterior motives can be enough of a gesture to bring in a little extra business. It can also be a nice way to put your brand back into the minds of customers who may have just forgotten how much they love you!
Messages like this are great, and can easily be sent directly to a customer. However, if you’re looking for something a little more advanced, we’ve got the tips for you too. But first, the basics of writing a knockout appreciation text message.
A text appreciation message should include a few basic elements.
To show you the difference these points can make, here’s an example of an okay text thank you:
And here’s what it looks like when you add our advice into the mix:
While it may seem like the second text is a lot more work, with a little help from our automation tools, personalized messages like this can be written and sent to thousands of people at once in one single click.
Sending a thoughtful, personalized, text message doesn’t have to take all your time. In fact, you only have to write one message.
As you grow your subscriber list it’s important to collect additional information from folks. One way to do this is by adding data collection to your keyword.
If you’re unfamiliar, a keyword is a word or phrase customers text in to join your list. With data collection, subscribers will be asked information like their first name, birthday, etc. right when they join your list.
Then, when you go to send a campaign to reach out to 100 customers you haven’t seen in a while, you can use a custom field to personalize the message so it feels like you’ve sent it just to them.
Here’s how it works.
1. Open up the data collection app and select the keyword for the customers you’d like to thank.
2. Next, select the fields you’d like to receive data from. Following our example above, we’ll want to select “First Name”, and “Note”. In the note section, we’ll type the question “What year did you first donate to St.Jude?”
3. Now write out your thank you message. We’ll take the same example from above, and input something called a custom field. Think of it as a placeholder that will automatically input the customer’s answers to the questions above.
As a result, this one message will send out a personalized appreciation text message to all of your customers as if it had been typed just for them!
You don’t have to reinvent the wheel to make someone feel valued. And thanks to text messaging, you don’t have to!
